How hard can it be to find a simple, tailored triangle bra? One that’s not too sporty or clingy and has adjustable straps? My usual go-to for A-cup bras is American Apparel; their casual triangle bras have served me for years and I love a sporty stripe. But sometimes you want something more grown up, especially if it might be a bit visible under a dressy blouse or top.

My PR friend introduced me to Rossell bras a while ago and I immediately liked the sound of them. Made in Portugal in silk and cotton, with supportive boned seams and elegant old fashioned S-fastenings, they’re so simple yet gently engineered. The fabrics are beautiful, sourced from Italy, Switzerland and France. Designer Jo Rossell started her career at Calvin Klein and Narciso Rodriguez, most recently consulting for Margaret Howell, so that’s the kind of style and quality benchmark we’re talking about.

I love the attention to detail; the gathered underband, the chic metal strap adjusters and the dainty criss-cross double straps – which actually give the support of a thicker strapped bra. The back closure is positioned slightly off-centre so it doesn’t dig into your spine. And it’s refreshing to find this sort of bra in a graphic poppy red, not just neutrals. (You can have neutrals too though).

The downside is that bras like this don’t come cheap. Being a small business, naturally costs are high, especially when you’re using high quality fabrics. This bra is made from a unique woven cotton that has its own stretch and the price reflects that (from £95). But the upside is that from next season Rossell is tweaking its designs, using a more accessible jersey cotton fabric that brings prices down by a good chunk.

Other little things that make a big difference? A new Breton top, a personal fragrance, a good tinted moisturiser and a classic Chanel lippie
