I was captivated by the carefree spirit and the freedom that America offered with its mix of cultures and traditions. I was struck by the crowded streets and the decadent window displays and the people who crossed each other without ever stopping. For me, America appeared to have a face that was instantly translatable into images.”

Photographer Mario Carnicelli, whose recently rediscovered archive of American street photography has been turned into a book by Reel Art Press and exhibition at the David Hill Gallery*. It’s a really great show and the above is my favourite shot…
