One of Shangri-La’s gems is it’s private island, Ilot Mangenie. It’s the only resort in Mauritius to offer this, and is very popular with it’s guests. We could see why after our morning there. You catch a boat over from the jetty, and you can almost imagine you’re on an untouched island (other than the cute cabanas and bar, of course). It felt so private, as if Miguel and I were there alone.
We ordered pizza to our cabana, and I’m not sure I could have been any happier!
Of course, if you’re looking for something slightly more active than eating pizza on the beach, you won’t be disappointed either. Next door on Ile aux Cerfs there is one of the best 18-hole golf courses in the world (so I’m told!), as well as a huge array of watersports. At the resort you’ll also find bikes if you want to head out and explore, tennis courts and a fitness centre. Although, there wasn’t a chance I’d be stepping in the gym – the most exercise we got was when we decided to take out a pedalo!
