THE DRG STYLE INDEX: Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, Gucci, Grenson, Matches

Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands and industry stories currently buzzing on my radar…

All attention has been on couture this week, with a wonderful Valentino show (Valentino is winning couture for me at the mo, not least for Pierpaolo’s studio antics), a pleasingly understated Dior show, and a shimmering Chanel show (watch my verdict on SHOWstudio). Elsewhere, these were my big stories…

BURBERRY X VIVIENNE WESTWOOD
Burberry X Vivienne Westwood collaboration
Now here’s a collab I can get behind. Burberry and Vivienne Westwood are joining forces to rework pieces from the Westwood archive in support of rainforest charity Cool Earth. Further news is scarce but so far we know that it lands in December.

GUCCI AND JEREMY DELLER HAVE MADE A FILM

Gucci Jeremy Deller film
Turner prize artist Jeremy Deller has made a documentary about the rave years – aka my student years – which I have no doubt is utterly brilliant. Titled “Everybody in The Place: An incomplete history of Britain 1984-1992,” the Gucci-funded film is poised as a kind of contemporary history lesson. It’s currently showing at the Gucci Wooster cinema space in New York until July 20 and will show at Frieze London in October.

GRENSON TRIPLE WELT

Grenson Evie triple welt women's
Weird as it sounds, I love wearing heavy shoes in summer. London is blisteringly hot at the moment, which makes me feel scruffy, even in sandals. So I smarten up my white 501s with Church’s or Grensons. I love the new Grenson triple welted Evie derbys (above) and Rose wing tip brogues, both in scotchgrain leather.

MATCHES DOES LIFESTYLE

Matches lifestyle
Matchesfashion.com has jumped into the lifestyle pool and it looks pretty epic. Pick from Luke Edward Hall ceramics, Pendleton blankets and desk knick knacks from L’Objet. That’s just for starters. Buy it here.

IN OTHER NEWS…

Sacai X NikeLab collaborations are consistently excellent and that includes the sneaker collaboration that Sacai just showed for SS19. Rumoured to be available from January 2019, I’m wondering if I could pull off the Waffle-Daybreak-LDV mashups. I just love the colour combos…

An intriguing collection of T-shirts envisaged by curator Olivier Saillard and cut with the help of Azzedine Alaia’s seamstress, Martine Lenoir was an under-radar hit at couture week

I chanced upon a Tiffany concept store in Covent Garden that’s aimed squarely at gen y and z. Think hashtags everywhere, fragrance vending machines and entry point desk accessories to make your workspace Pinterest-worthy. (For oldies like me there are Hermes-style blankets and the Tiffany T collection…)

Those Anna Wintour exit rumours just won’t die. Apparently Edward Enninful, Sally Singer, Mark Holgate and Amy Astley are in the line-up for takeover. (I’d be happy if it was Amy…)
